The candidate is expected to be responsible for product level layout and improve the efficiency of tape-out process by implementing LVS and advanced error detection mechanism using Calibre nmDRC deck.

The position could be a junior, senior, or principal role depending on candidate’s qualification.

The scope of the responsibilities includes:

    • Passive or active photonic device design, simulation, and layout using state-of-the-art modelling and layout tools

    • Interaction with the silicon foundry (optional)

    • Device and PIC test/characterization (limited)

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Ph.D (or Master's) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline with emphasis on Integrated Photonics, with 2+ yr (5+yr for Master degree holder) direct experience in Silicon Photonics device design.

    • Direct experience in design flow and layout scripting;

    • Tape-out experience with at least one Silicon Photonic foundry, and its PDK

    • Experience with passive optics, such as edge coupler, grating coupler, MMI, polarization splitter and rotator are strongly desired

    • Experience with photonic test instrumentation, hands-on in the lab

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Good communication skills, self-motivation, and team player attributes.

    Work Location: Silicon Valley, California

  • Alpine optoelectronics is a vertically integrated optical transceiver startup. This position will be responsible for managing the Silicon Photonics Foundry suppliers to enable successful Silicon wafer runs.

The position could be a junior, senior, or principal role depending on candidate’s qualification. This position has two roles, one is to manage foundry related activities, the other (optional) aspect is a product engineering role.

    Responsibilities of foundry interface:

    • Procure foundry PDK and other process information, and work as internal consultant to optical designers

    • Design in-house electrical and photonic test patterns to monitor the foundry process variations, supplementing foundry Process Control Modules

    • Being the owner/driving force for the tape-out process

    • Using Statistical Process Control tools to analyze the wafer PCM data, and identify process/design weakness

    • Working with foundry account manager, process integration engineer to enable on-time delivery of wafers

    • Working with foundry process integration engineer to design process and recommend design split

    • Monitor and drive foundry process development to enable Alpine’s next generation product, and improve existing product yield and cycle time

    Responsibilities of product engineering:

    • Using statistical tools to analyze product yield, identify process or design weakness to improve product yield

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Ph.D (or Master's) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field with educational or industrial experience in Semiconductor processing, or expert with photonics training but had extensive exposure to foundry interface

    • Experience in Silicon foundry as process integration (preferred) or module engineers, or being a foundry interface person of a fabless company is desired

    • Exposure to implementation of silicon photonics design, or educational background in integrated photonics is a plus.

    • Solid statistical analysis capability, practical experience with analysis software such as JMP is strongly desired

    • Analytical analysis skill, programming fluency in Python, Matlab, or any other commonly-used software tools
